How to Make Loofah Body Scrub Towels?

Recently, I had a slightly old loofah, which reminded me of the specifics of the dishwasher - the old loofah... In my impression, the loofah used for washing dishes mostly looks like this, round and with a cavity inside~

Or it could be a loofah scrub towel like the one in the picture below, which looks like a handy little mud scrubber.

Later, I discovered that the loofah also has a large, flat piece! Like this.

How is this large, flat piece of loofah made? Well, it all starts with an old loofah and the abuse it receives...

Remove the skin and seeds.

To make a loofah scrub towel, you first need to find an aging loofah. Generally, the fibers of fresh and tender loofah have not aged and are not suitable for making loofah scrub towels. Therefore, we need to wait for the loofah to gradually age and form fibers inside before processing it.

Before processing, peel the outer skin of the loofah. If the skin is difficult to peel, you can use a knife to make a few cuts and gently tap the loofah to help peel it.

Next, remove the seeds from the ridge gourd. Roll the ridge gourd from top to bottom and squeeze out the seeds. Alternatively, you can let the gourd dry slightly and use tapping to make the seeds fall out. You can also use the method of rinsing with water to wash away the black ridge gourd seeds and foam together.

Dry and cut into segments.

After processing the ridge gourd, it needs to be washed multiple times to remove the juice inside, then air-dried, and prepared for the next step.

Wash the ridge gourd pulp.

The dried ridge gourd can be directly cut into several sections from the middle to make dishwashing sponges. By threading a small rope through the sponge, it can be conveniently hung and used.

If you want to make a flat ridge gourd bath towel, you need to continue with the manual operation.

Slice the ridge gourd.

First, cut open the side of the ridge gourd and remove the pulp inside, so that the surface of the ridge gourd is opened up as a whole piece.

Then, flatten the entire ridge gourd fiber with two rollers, making it a whole piece.

Trim and flatten.

After flattening the ridge gourd fiber, you can cut it into the desired shape through trimming.

Finally, you can fold the loofah, cotton cloth, and sponge together to make a three-in-one double-sided bath towel. Sew the four sides and remove excess fabric. You can also sew on a small strip for hanging or add a logo.

Other uses of loofah

In addition to making loofah bath towels, loofah can also be used to make insoles and other products.

Using the original loofah fiber material to make dishwashing sponges and bath towels is a great way to make use of natural materials.

In addition, there are many other applications related to intelligent materials, such as using willow twigs to make toothbrush heads in ancient times. The inspiration for these ideas is interesting and makes people want to learn how to use materials flexibly.
